Now, we know the causes of Avast VPN not working. Next, how to fix this problem? We collect some effective methods and show them in this article.
Fix 1: Check Internet Connection
In some situations, SecureLine VPN clients are not allowed to run on the network by the ISP. Besides, we should also check if all proxy servers should not be active.
We can also try restarting the router. We should wait for around 1 minute after plugging out the router’s main power cable and then we can plug everything back in. That way, all the temporary configurations will be cleared and everything will be reinitialized.
Now connect the computer to the Internet again and check if the Avast VPN problems resolved.
Fix 2: Change the VPN Location
This solution is to change the location of Avast VPN and you can just follow the steps below:
Step 1: Open the Avast VPN application and select Privacy on the left side of the program.
Step 2: Then click Change Location and select another location that wasn’t selected yet.
Step 3: Save our changes and exit. Then restart our computer.
Now we can see if it fixes the Avast VPN not working issue. If not, we can try the next solution.
Fix 3: Perform a Clean Boot
If the above solution doesn’t work for us, please then perform a Clean Boot to see whether it can fix the Avast VPN not working error.
Step 1: To do this job, we need to right-click on the Start button and choose Run from the popup list.
Step 2: Then, type msconfig into the Run box and press Enter to enter the System Configuration interface. Stay at the General interface and then choose Selective startup.
Step 3: Uncheck Load startup items, and make sure that both Load system services & Use original boot configuration are selected.
Step 4: Next, switch to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click the Disable all button.
Step 5: Then, press the Apply and OK buttons successively.
Lastly, restart the computer and Windows will enter the Clean Boot state. If the issue does not exist there, it means that the error is caused by some non-Microsoft processes. Then, we need to try and identify the exact offender manually.
Fix 4: Reinstall the Application
After we manually move between drives or interrupt an application during an update, the installation usually goes bad. Thus, the solution is to reinstall the application.
Step 1: Press the Windows + R keys simultaneously, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
Step 2: Then search for the Avast SecureLine VPN entry and right-click it, then choose Uninstall.
Step 3: Now restart the computer and navigate to the official Avast download page. Download a fresh installation copy to an accessible location on the computer and install. Then launch it and enter our credentials.
Now run the Avast SecureLine VPN again and see if it connects correctly as normal.
Fix 5: Turn off Third-Party Antivirus Software
Third-party antivirus software can also cause the Avast VPN not working issue on Windows. So this issue can be fixed by turning off third-party antivirus software before we connect with the VPN.
We can right-click the antivirus utilities’ system tray icons and select the disable or turn-off button to switch off third-party antivirus software. We can also set up exceptions to exclude our VPN clients from the antivirus software firewalls.
